Many of us are quite literally exhausted. Certain public businesses can now deny access or services to people they just simply do not like. But it is important that you do understand and that you do care. That may be the very definition of privilege. If you have never had a court or an election decide if you had the same rights as your friends and neighbors, it may be hard to fully understand. The hate becomes more insidious and dangerous. But now the web of discrimination widens.

I deeply love this country but if I am honest, right now, I do not like it very much. This, just one day following a ruling that struck down down aspects of affirmative action related to race in the college admission process saying nothing about or propping up systems that actually discriminate or promote inequity in our educational system such as legacy admissions based on family connections or monetary contributions. Yesterday, in an utterly bizarre hypothetical case about an imaginary gay couple and a wedding website designer who never once made or designed an actual wedding website, the Supreme Court decided that under the First Amendment of our nation’s Constitution certain public businesses could hang this sign in their window and discriminate against and deny services to LGBTQ individuals. Now, today- the scary, unrelenting, divisive momentum is at our front door - are you on the sidelines watching the pain of "them"? Just you wait, there's a reckoning with your name on it right around the corner. It has to be said to our populace who are staggering at these recent decisions- "were you on the sidelines when bit by bit we ALLOWED inequity to flourish to protect our status quo?" Soooo many people looked from the sidelines when our rights were chipped away, when health AND wealth disparities have accelerated, when corporate CEOs are predominantly one group, when our legislators distorted and weaponized laws, when GUNS became the leading cause of death in America 🇺🇸.
This Supreme Court decision shows exactly what happens when good people do nothing or not enough. It has to be said that there are still today socially accepted practices of "whites only" or very minimal inclusion and representation. I'm part of a race of people who LIVED this frightening and often violent circumstances of "whites only". Where catchy and performative statements have become worthless commercialization of serious human harms. The power we create together – when we combine your strengths with ours – is unstoppable.The Decisions that Rocked America are NOT new!! Don't be an alarmist snow flake IF you did nothing when the books were banned, folks shot down in the streets, when $$$$ were mandated for the rich.
